The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has penalized Rishabh Pant following Lucknow Super Giants’ high-voltage clash against Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on May 15, 2026.
Although Lucknow Super Giants registered a convincing 7-wicket victory over CSK, the night ended with disappointment for skipper Rishabh Pant due to a breach of IPL regulations.
Rishabh Pant Fined by BCCI for Slow Over-Rate
The BCCI confirmed that Lucknow Super Giants failed to maintain the mandatory over-rate during Match No. 59 of IPL 2026. As a result, Rishabh Pant fined by BCCI became one of the major talking points after the match.
According to the official statement, Pant committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate violations by teams.
Pant Penalised ₹12 Lakh for First Offence
Under IPL rules, since this was LSG’s first slow over-rate offence of the 2026 season, Rishabh Pant fined by BCCI resulted in a monetary penalty of ₹12 lakh on the captain.
However, no additional fines were imposed on the remaining members of the playing XI or the Impact Player because it was the franchise’s first violation this season. The IPL regulations state that repeated offences could lead to heavier fines for the captain and financial penalties for the rest of the squad.
LSG Beat CSK Despite Penalty Drama
Despite the controversy surrounding Rishabh Pant fined by BCCI, Lucknow Super Giants delivered one of their best performances of the season.
A superb innings from Mitchell Marsh guided LSG to successfully chase down CSK’s target of 187 runs with 20 balls remaining. The victory dealt a serious blow to Chennai’s playoff hopes in IPL 2026.
