Vijay Mallya celebrated his pre-70th birthday in London with IPL founder Lalit Modi, joined by Idris Elba, Manoviraj Khosla, and other high-profile guests.

Vijay Mallya, the former owner of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), had a pre-70th birthday celebration sponsored by Lalit Modi, the founder and former chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

An image of the two posing together for the shot has gone viral on social media. The occasion took place at the former’s home in London.

In response to the post, Lalit Modi said:

“Thank you all for coming and celebrating my friend @TheVijayMallya pre birthday bash at my house”

Fashion designer Manoviraj Khosla and Hollywood actor Idris Elba were among the attendees, according to additional photos from the celebration posted by photographer Jim Rydell on his official Instagram account (@jim_rydell).

The Modi-Mallya IPL Connections

Under the direction of Lalit Modi, the first chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the IPL was introduced in 2008.

The IPL, which was intended to be a franchise-based Twenty20 cricket league, combined city-based clubs, elite domestic and international players, and high-stakes player auctions to create a distinctive blend of entertainment and sport.

Eight teams participated in its inaugural season, which captivated cricket fans all over the world. The IPL has transformed international cricket and given up-and-coming players a stage as it has developed into one of the most popular and lucrative cricket leagues.

One of the first eight IPL teams, RCB, was first owned by Vijay Mallya and remained so till 2016. They won their first title in 2025 and are presently the reigning champions.
