Cricket fans heading to the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 match between India vs Zimbabwe on Thursday, February 26, 2026, have reason to cheer beyond the action on the field. Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), in partnership with the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, has announced free metro travel for match ticket holders to ensure hassle-free transportation to and from the stadium.

The high-stakes encounter will be played at the iconic M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, and the initiative aims to ease traffic congestion while encouraging the use of public transport.

How to Avail the Free Chennai Metro Ride

Fans attending the India vs Zimbabwe match do not need to purchase a separate metro ticket, token, or card. The unique QR code printed on their physical or digital match ticket will act as the travel pass. Commuters simply need to scan the QR code at the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates at any metro station.

Each match ticket allows one round trip on February 26 between any Chennai Metro station and Government Estate Metro Station, the nearest stop to Chepauk Stadium.

Extended Services for Match Day

To manage the expected rush after the evening fixture, CMRL has extended its services:

  • Metro operations will run until midnight (12:00 AM).
  • The final trains from Government Estate Station will depart at 12:00 AM toward Wimco Nagar Depot and Chennai Airport.

Passengers traveling after 11:00 PM who need to switch to the Green Line (Corridor 2) must make the interchange at Chennai Central Metro Station.

Important Advisory for Fans

Government Estate Station will close entry approximately 10 minutes before the last train departs. Spectators are advised to leave the stadium promptly after the post-match presentation to avoid missing the final metro service.

With free metro rides and extended services in place, fans can focus entirely on cheering for their team in what promises to be a high-pressure encounter.
