Rajasthan’s Mines Secretary Calls for Zero Loss Mining, Engages with Stakeholders of Kota Division
Jaipur, October 9, 2024: Principal Secretary of the Mines Department and Secretary in-charge of Kota, Shri T. Ravikant, has emphasized the importance of zero loss mining to enhance the productivity and sustainability of the state’s mineral sector. During an interactive session with key stakeholders in the mining industry, including mining leaseholders, associations, and cement companies from Kota, Baran, Jhalawar, Bundi, and Ramganjmandi, he stressed that the adoption of modern technology and effective practices will drive investment, employment, and revenue growth.
Addressing the gathering on Wednesday, Shri Ravikant highlighted that the government is committed to incorporating stakeholders’ practical suggestions into the state’s upcoming mineral policy. He underlined the significance of quality production, resource conservation, and safety in mining operations, stating, “Kota division holds a unique place in Rajasthan’s mining sector, and we must ensure zero loss while mining these invaluable resources. Advanced technology and safety protocols should be a priority.”
Focus on Modernization and Safety
The Principal Secretary’s direct interaction with the stakeholders reflected the government’s approach towards modernizing the mining sector. By fostering collaboration between the government and industry leaders, the state aims to position itself as a leader in mining practices in India. Shri Ravikant assured the stakeholders that the government will consider their suggestions and take positive action where appropriate.
Among the participants who shared insights and suggestions were key representatives such as Shri Sarvjit Singh Anand of Ramganjmandi Limestone Sangh, Shri Pukhraj Jain of the Jhalawar Association, Shri Manoj from Silica Mining in Bundi, and senior officials from Mangalam Cement and ACC Cement Lakheri. The engagement covered various challenges and opportunities in the sector, including the adoption of cutting-edge technology, enhancing production capacity, and improving safety standards.
A Collaborative Approach to Mineral Policy
Shri Ravikant further mentioned that the state government is moving towards making the mining sector a key contributor to the economy by introducing a new mineral policy that will promote responsible mining practices. “The objective is to align the industry with global standards and introduce mechanisms that ensure zero waste, zero accidents, and maximum productivity,” he said. He added that the upcoming policy will facilitate faster growth, encourage more investment, and increase employment opportunities within the mining industry.
The Principal Secretary also encouraged stakeholders to continue their involvement and provide input for the new policy, which he assured would prioritize the industry’s needs while ensuring environmental sustainability and adherence to safety norms.
Combatting Illegal Mining and Revenue Recovery
In addition to engaging with industry leaders, Shri Ravikant also conducted a meeting with mining officers at Khanij Bhawan, Kota, where he instructed them to take stringent measures to curb illegal mining activities. “Mining officers need to be more vigilant and active in the field. Effective action should be taken against illegal mining, and efforts should be accelerated for revenue recovery,” he said.
As part of the state government’s Amnesty Scheme, which aims to recover dues from mining defaulters, Shri Ravikant directed officials to contact defaulters directly, explain the benefits of the scheme, and ensure that the outstanding amounts are collected promptly. The Amnesty Scheme was introduced following the budget announcement earlier this year, aiming to provide relief to defaulters while boosting the state’s revenue from the mining sector.
Streamlining Operations and Technology Adoption
Shri Ravikant also emphasized the importance of modernizing departmental operations through the adoption of technology. He urged officials to complete tasks such as the delineation of mining areas and the preparation of mining plans within a stipulated timeframe. Additionally, he instructed them to improve office record-keeping systems by incorporating advanced technology to ensure that crucial departmental records are stored safely and efficiently.
Senior officials, including SME Shri Yashwant Damor, SME Vigilance Shri P.L. Meena, and MEs Shri Pinkrao Singh, Shri Ramniwas Mangal, Shri Sahdev Saharan, and Shri Prashant Berwal, briefed the Principal Secretary on the department’s progress in achieving its targets and activities undertaken to curb illegal mining. The meeting concluded with active participation from various departments, reaffirming the government’s commitment to advancing the mining sector in Rajasthan.
