Punjab Government trying its level best to stop paddy stubble burning. Cases brought down to 47 percent this year from previous year’s 70 percent.
Chandigarh, November 9: The matter is going on in the Hon’ble Supreme Court since long. The Hon’ble Supreme Court took notice of the pollution in Delhi which witnesses excessive pollution during November and December.
Disclosing this, the Advocate General (AG) Punjab Gurminder Singh said that Filing the affidavit on behalf of Punjab, we contended that the farmers of Punjab need to be provided with 30 to 40000 machines besides 25 percent Funding by Delhi, 25 percent by the Union Government and 50 percent by Punjab Government. On the issue of waters of Punjab, we said that the farmers must be encouraged to grow crops other than paddy apart from MSP on new crops. This problem can be resolved by going in for crop diversification. We also suggested the purchase of stubble and its usage.
After the rap by Supreme Court, the Punjab Government has strictly instructed Police and Civil Administrations in all the Districts to put a stop to the burning of paddy stubble. This all can’t be stopped at once but the Punjab Government is continuing its efforts. We suggested that those farmers who don’t burn stubble, should be incentivized with cash of Rs. 2000 so as to increase their morale.
The coming weeks would see more decline in Punjab in the cases of paddy stubble burning. Previous year, the stubble burning cases were 70 percent while we have brought these to 47 percent.
