New Delhi, 13th Nov 2024 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a significant six-day tour from November 16, visiting Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana, according to an official statement on Tuesday. This diplomatic visit marks a major outreach to strengthen ties with each of these nations and engage in global discussions.

The tour will commence with Modi’s visit to Nigeria from November 16-17 at the invitation of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This marks a historic trip, as it will be the first time an Indian prime minister has visited Nigeria in 17 years. Modi’s agenda includes strategic discussions to assess and strengthen the partnership between India and Nigeria. Talks will revolve around avenues to deepen bilateral cooperation across sectors, including trade, energy, and cultural exchange, reaffirming India’s commitment to fostering meaningful ties with Nigeria.

Following the Nigeria visit, the prime minister will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from November 18-19 to attend the highly anticipated G20 Summit, hosted this year by Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula Da Silva. India’s role is prominent within the G20, as it currently serves on the G20 Troika alongside Brazil and South Africa. India’s active participation in the G20 has underscored its commitment to shaping discussions on global issues, with Prime Minister Modi set to contribute India’s perspective on pressing matters like climate change, sustainable development, and economic resilience. Building upon the outcomes of the recent G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration and Voice of the Global South Summits, Modi will present India’s initiatives and share insights on challenges facing the international community. Additionally, the summit will offer the prime minister an opportunity to hold discussions with various global leaders on the sidelines, paving the way for strengthened diplomatic ties.

Concluding his tour, Prime Minister Modi will visit Guyana from November 19-21, following an invitation from Guyanese President Mohamed Irfaan Ali. This visit holds special historical significance as it will be the first by an Indian prime minister to Guyana in over five decades, the last visit being in 1968. The prime minister’s schedule in Guyana includes high-level meetings to discuss areas of collaboration, such as energy, technology, and cultural ties, as India seeks to enhance its relationship with Guyana, a country that shares deep cultural and historical bonds with India.

This three-nation tour underscores India’s diplomatic commitment to enhancing its influence and partnerships across continents. By engaging with leaders in Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana, Prime Minister Modi aims to foster cooperation in areas ranging from economic growth to sustainable development, affirming India’s role as a key player on the global stage.
