MP Malvinder Singh Kang Advocates for Teacher-Student Interaction Over Mid-Day Meals and Monitors Development Initiatives in Rupnagar

Sri Anandpur Sahib Member of Parliament (MP), Malvinder Singh Kang, on Monday directed teachers to actively participate in mid-day meals alongside students, an initiative aimed at fostering closer interaction and understanding between educators and pupils. The move, guided by directives from the Education Department, is part of broader efforts to enhance the education system in Punjab.

Presiding over the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee meeting at the Administrative Complex in Rupnagar, MP Kang assessed the progress of numerous developmental and welfare programs. These programs, sponsored by both the Central and State Governments, focus on various sectors, including education, public health, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability. Key officials from various departments were present during this review.

Kang emphasized the Punjab Government’s commitment to improving the state’s educational infrastructure. Government schools are being revitalized with better facilities, including extensive library construction across the region. He noted that strengthening educational institutions is a priority for the government, ensuring that students have access to the resources they need for quality learning.

In addition to education, MP Kang raised a critical environmental concern: the rapid depletion of groundwater in the region. He urged farmers and stakeholders to make use of pond water for irrigation to conserve groundwater for future generations. Punjab is actively implementing the “Thapar model” of water management, which purifies pond water for agricultural use. This initiative has already begun in several villages, and Kang urged the Water Supply and Sanitation Department to expedite the project in the remaining 508 villages where approvals have been granted.

Addressing the pressing issue of plastic waste management, MP Kang highlighted efforts to establish plastic waste management units in villages such as Sarthali, Nurpur Bedi, and Agampur in Sri Anandpur Sahib. These units will help dispose of plastic pollution in a scientific and sustainable manner. He emphasized that similar initiatives should be launched in other blocks to ensure comprehensive waste management across the district.

In terms of public health, Kang called on the Health Department to submit reports detailing vacant posts, basic equipment needs, and other requirements necessary for improving health services in government hospitals. He reaffirmed that essential medicines are being provided free of charge to underprivileged patients in government facilities, but urged further expansion of health services to meet the needs of district residents.

In his closing remarks, MP Kang stressed the importance of raising awareness about various government welfare schemes, ensuring that financial assistance reaches the poor and needy. He called for increased outreach efforts to make sure that eligible citizens are informed about the available support.

During the meeting, MP Kang also reviewed the progress of several other development schemes, including the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), and the Swachh Bharat Mission, among others. These schemes aim to uplift rural infrastructure, create jobs, and improve sanitation and living conditions across Rupnagar district.

Prominent officials who attended the meeting included Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, District Planning Committee Chairman Harminder Singh Dhahe, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Sanjeev Kumar, and Civil Surgeon Dr. Tarsem Singh. They, along with other senior officials, pledged to support the ongoing development and welfare programs in the district.

MP Malvinder Singh Kang’s visit reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing educational quality, promoting environmental sustainability, and improving healthcare services, marking yet another step toward the holistic development of Rupnagar district.
