PM Modi praised Jordan King Abdullah’s fight against terrorism as India and Jordan discussed boosting trade, defence and regional peace.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Jordanian King Abdullah II’s efforts to combat terrorism and extremism as India and Jordan discussed ways to strengthen their collaboration in a variety of areas , from commerce and investment to defense and security.
On the first stop on a three-nation journey that also includes Ethiopia and Oman, Modi arrived in Jordan. This tour, which marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, is the first full-fledged bilateral visit to Jordan in 37 years. Jafar Hassan, the counterpart from Jordan, welcomed Modi ceremoniously at the airport in Amman.
Afterwards, King Abdullah and Modi met at Al Husseiniya Palace to discuss enhancing collaboration across a variety of areas. Additionally, they discussed regional and international matters, such as the Gaza situation.

“Had fruitful conversations in Amman with His Majesty King Abdullah II.” Modi stated on social media that “his personal commitment to vibrant India-Jordan relations is noteworthy.”
The two presidents reiterated their shared commitment to combating terrorism. “Under King Abdullah’s leadership, Jordan has sent a strategic message to the world on countering terrorism, extremism, and radicalization,” Modi stated, adding, “We have a shared and clear stance against terrorism.”
King Abdullah denounced all forms of terrorism and expressed his unwavering support for India’s war on terrorism.
“We all wish for peace and stability in the region,” Modi added, citing King Abdullah’s active involvement in the Gaza conflict.
Both presidents emphasized how crucial it is to bring security and peace back to the area, and Modi repeated India’s support for initiatives aimed at establishing long-lasting peace.
According to the external affairs ministry, the two leaders talked about ways to strengthen their collaboration in areas like trade, investment, defense, security, renewable energy, fertilizers, IT and digital technologies, infrastructure, critical minerals, health, pharmaceuticals, education, tourism, culture, and people-to-people ties.
Modi suggested that the two countries strive to increase trade to $5 billion over the next five years, pointing out that India is Jordan’s third-largest trading partner. Additionally, he urged cooperation between India’s United Payments Interface (UPI) and Jordan’s digital payment system.
According to the external affairs ministry, businesses from both sides are negotiating significant investments in Jordan to address the rising demand for phosphatic fertilizer in India, as Jordan is a significant supplier of fertilizers to India.

Memorandums of understanding (MoUs) for collaboration in the areas of digital public infrastructure, culture, water management, and renewable energy were finalized by the two parties. Additionally, a twinning agreement between Petra and Ellora was finalized.
King Abdullah hosted a banquet meal after the discussions. King Abdullah welcomed Modi’s invitation to travel to India.
