Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday proposed a major international initiative titled the Global Skills Partnership during his address at the G7 Summit in Evian-les-Bains, France. The proposal aims to strengthen cooperation between developed nations and the Global South by enabling skilled workforce mobility and addressing global labour shortages.

The Global Skills Partnership is designed to connect the rising pool of young talent in countries like India with ageing populations in developed economies, creating a mutually beneficial system of skill exchange and employment opportunities.

Global Skills Partnership Focuses on Skilled Workforce Mobility

Highlighting global demographic trends, PM Modi said many developed countries are facing a shortage of skilled workers due to ageing populations, while nations like India have a large and growing youth workforce.

The Global Skills Partnership seeks to create structured skill mapping systems and trusted mobility pathways for professionals, ensuring smoother movement of talent across borders. According to Modi, this initiative would help meet global labour demands while expanding opportunities for skilled youth.

Vision for Inclusive and Balanced Growth

Addressing the session titled “Reviving a Balanced, Shared and Sustainable Economic Growth for All”, the Prime Minister stressed that economic progress must go beyond GDP figures and trade numbers.

The Global Skills Partnership was presented as part of a broader vision of inclusive development, where growth benefits all regions and populations rather than a select few.

“The real question is—growth for whom, with whom and in what direction?” Modi said.

The Global Skills Partnership is expected to work alongside other global initiatives to strengthen economic integration and create sustainable development pathways for emerging economies.

He further highlighted that such cooperation would enhance global stability and shared prosperity.

The Global Skills Partnership proposed by PM Modi at the G7 Summit marks a significant step toward redefining global workforce collaboration. The initiative aims to balance demographic disparities, strengthen international cooperation, and promote inclusive economic growth across nations
