The successful MR-SAM test by INS Surat coincides with a period of heightened national alert following the terrorist attack in Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam, where 28 people, mostly tourists, lost their lives. What is the MR-SAM Missile System?
Developed jointly by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), the MR-SAM (Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile) system is designed to intercept incoming aerial threats such as aircraft, missiles, and drones at ranges up to 70 km.
