The CBSE OSM controversy has triggered widespread debate across the country after students reported multiple issues with the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system used for digital evaluation of answer sheets. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has now responded to the growing concerns, assuring that strict action will be taken if any irregularities are found in the process.
Government Reacts to Rising CBSE OSM Controversy
Addressing the issue after a meeting with CBSE officials in Delhi, Pradhan said he takes full responsibility for the situation and assured that corrective measures will be implemented. The CBSE OSM controversy has intensified after complaints from students regarding evaluation errors and technical glitches in the system.
Students Raise Concerns Over Evaluation Errors
The CBSE OSM controversy gained momentum after several students reported blurred scanned answer sheets, missing or unchecked responses, portal crashes, and payment failures during re-evaluation processes. These issues have led to confusion and frustration among students and parents.
While acknowledging the concerns, the Education Minister defended the On-Screen Marking system, calling it a “progressive instrument” designed to improve transparency and efficiency. He said the CBSE OSM controversy should not overshadow the intent of the digital evaluation model, which is already used globally.

Pradhan highlighted the massive scale of CBSE’s evaluation system, stating that around 17 lakh students and nearly 98 lakh answer scripts are processed, amounting to about 40 crore scanned pages. He said the CBSE OSM controversy must be viewed in the context of this large-scale digital operation.
Political Reactions Add Pressure
The CBSE OSM controversy has also turned political, with opposition leaders questioning the handling of the examination and demanding accountability. The government, however, has urged that the issue should not be politicised as it directly affects student mental health.
Pradhan assured that no one will be spared if irregularities are found and promised that the issues raised under the CBSE OSM controversy will be addressed on priority. He also appealed to avoid unnecessary panic among students while the review process continues.
CBSE Extends Support to Students
CBSE has already extended deadlines for accessing scanned copies and reassured students that genuine grievances will be reviewed by experts. The CBSE OSM controversy continues to remain under close scrutiny as the board works on stabilising the digital evaluation system.
