Delhi University’s principal smeared cow dung on classroom walls as a part of research project.

The principal of Lakshmibai College, Pratyush Vatsala, smeared cow dung on classroom walls as a part of a research project. She said it’s a traditional method to cool rooms during the summer heat. ​A video of this act went online, which made people angry. As part of his protest, Ronak Khatri, DUSU president, applied cow dung to the walls of the principal’s office. He did this to demonstrate that students disagreed with the use of such methods.

The principal of Lakshmibai College, Pratyush Vatsala explained her actions by saying that the experiment took place in an old classroom and was part of a study project run by the faculty on long-term ways to cool buildings.  Yogesh Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University, said that both the principal’s approach and the students’ protest were wrong. He said that science studies should be done in controlled settings instead of busy classes.
