Union Home Minister Amit Shah on infiltration issue launched a sharp attack on West Bengal’s former Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, claiming that illegal infiltration in the state has significantly reduced under current efforts. Speaking during his visit to Ahmedabad on Thursday (May 28, 2026), Shah said that earlier infiltration in West Bengal was happening on a daily basis, but now, according to him, many infiltrators are voluntarily returning.
The issue of Amit Shah on infiltration issue once again became central as he praised the actions being taken in the state and highlighted the role of detention centres. He said that those who have entered illegally are being encouraged to return to their places of origin, and if they leave voluntarily, no legal action will be taken against them.
Shah Speaks on Anti-Infiltration Measures and Committees
Reiterating the government’s stance, Amit Shah on infiltration issue said that the Centre is committed to identifying and removing every illegal infiltrator from the country. He also referred to the formation of a High-Level Committee on Demographic Change, set up under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to Shah, Amit Shah on infiltration issue explained that the committee will study artificial demographic changes, their causes, and suggest legal and administrative measures to control them. The panel is expected to submit its report within one year and may also recommend new laws if required.
Remarks on Border Security and BSF Land Allocation
During his address, Amit Shah on infiltration issue also spoke about border security arrangements in West Bengal. He highlighted the allocation of land for the Border Security Force (BSF), stating that significant progress has been made in fencing work along the Bangladesh border.
Shah praised state-level coordination in transferring land for security purposes and claimed that this step will strengthen border management and help control illegal cross-border movement.
