A total of 195 migrants from Pakistan received Indian citizenship certificates during a ceremony in Ahmedabad. 122 of the 195 migrants received the benefits granted under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).
The migrants who acquired Indian citizenship belong to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, and Jain communities and had arrived in India as exiles, stated Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi during the ceremony.

During the ceremony, Sanghavi extended a warm greeting to the migrants arriving in India. “Smile, you are now citizens of India,” he stated.
Today, 195 individuals from Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, and Jain communities were conferred Indian citizenship. Among them were elders who have served countless as physicians and children who endured suffering in Pakistan. Following years of adversity and neglect by preceding administrations, they were compelled to seek refuge in India.
Under the stewardship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 195 refugees in India attained Indian citizenship today. These individuals, who arrived in India after 1947 and 1956, realized their long-cherished aspiration of obtaining citizenship through the government’s CAA legislation, which facilitates refugees in acquiring Indian nationality, he added.
122 migrants received assistance through CAA, while 73 had submitted applications for it.
Although 122 individuals received benefits under the CAA, 73 were issued certificates after submitting their applications at the Ahmedabad district collector’s office.
Migrants arriving in India responded to the acquisition of citizenship. Dr. Maheshkumar Purohit, a gynecologist who migrated to India in 1956, discovered that he lacked official citizenship only when he attempted to obtain a passport. Purohit ultimately acquired citizenship and, following multiple endeavors, was granted a passport under the CAA in April 2025, enabling him to visit his daughter residing abroad, he stated. The gynecologist expressed that the moment was profoundly emotional and eagerly anticipated.

Meanwhile, engineer Pooja Abhimanyu expressed that the citizenship document represented significantly more than merely a piece of paper to her.
Thirty-five migrants from Bangladesh are granted citizenship in Odisha.
Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi conferred Indian citizenship upon 35 migrants residing in Nabarangpur under the CAA 2019. Today, for the first time in Odisha, under the provisions of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019, 35 individuals residing in Nabarangpur district of Odisha were issued citizenship certificates. He stated that these individuals, who migrated from Bangladesh, were issued citizenship certificates following the presentation of their citizenships to the migrants.
