Salman Khan’s highly anticipated war drama, inspired by the 2020 Galwan Valley clash, has officially changed its title. The film, earlier known as Battle of Galwan, will now release as Maatrubhumi movie: May War Rest in Peace. The announcement came with a striking new poster, showing Salman Khan peering from behind a blood-stained wooden log wrapped in a spiked chain.
Based on the Galwan Valley Clash
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the Maatrubhumi movie is based on the real-life confrontation between Indian soldiers and Chinese troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on June 15, 2020. The clash involved brutal hand-to-hand combat and resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian soldiers, making it one of the most serious military confrontations in decades.

In the film, Salman Khan portrays Colonel Santosh Babu, commanding officer of the 16 Bihar Regiment, who led Indian troops while enforcing a disengagement agreement at the border.
Cast, Crew, and Music
Apart from Salman Khan, Maatrubhumi movie features Chitrangda Singh as the female lead. Actors Abhilash Chaudhary and Ankur Bhatia play pivotal roles. The music is composed by Himesh Reshammiya. In the first-look poster, Salman sports a rugged battle look with a bloodied face and a determined expression, reflecting the intensity of the Maatrubhumi .

Maatrubhumi movie Release Date and Controversy
Originally scheduled for April 17, the release of Maatrubhumi movie has been postponed to August 2026. Even before release, the film has faced criticism in China. Some Chinese social media users and state media accused the teaser of misrepresenting the Galwan Valley events and promoting Indian nationalism.
MEA Distances Itself
India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) clarified that filmmaking issues are handled by relevant authorities and the ministry has no role in the production or content of Maatrubhumi movie.
Legacy of the Galwan Clash
The real-life Galwan Valley clash reshaped India-China relations. Following the 2020 incident, India imposed restrictions on Chinese apps, increased investment scrutiny, and public campaigns called for boycotts of Chinese products.
The Maatrubhumi movie is expected to depict the bravery of Indian soldiers and the events that influenced India-China relations, offering audiences a dramatic insight into one of modern India’s most significant military confrontations.
