The Kerala Story 2, the sequel to the controversial hit, has finally hit theatres after navigating multiple legal hurdles. The film, starring Ulka Gupta, Aishwarya Ojha, and Aditi Bhatia, received clearance from the Kerala High Court on February 27, 2026, and has already made waves at the Indian box office, crossing Rs 10.54 crore in its opening days despite a slow start.

Slow Start Turns Into a Box Office Boom

The Kerala Story 2 film opened with Rs 75 lakh on Day 1. On Day 2, The Kerala Story 2 witnessed an extraordinary 520% growth, collecting Rs 4.65 crore, showing that strong word-of-mouth and audience interest were building rapidly. By Day 3, earnings reached Rs 5 crore, and Day 4 added Rs 14 lakh more, indicating steady performance in its initial run.

Outperforms 8 Films on Opening Weekend

Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the film outshined the opening weekend collections of eight other releases in 2026, making it the fifth-highest-grossing opening weekend of the year so far. Notably, it surpassed:

  • Do Deewane Shehar Mein – Rs 4.2 crore
  • Assi – Rs 4.2 crore
  • Tu Ya Main – Rs 2.85 crore
  • Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain – Rs 85 lakh
  • Vadh 2 – Rs 2.35 crore
  • Mayasaba – Rs 54 lakh
  • Rahu Ket – Rs 4.4 crore
  • Happy Patel – Rs 4.35 crore

Budget and Recovery

Reports suggest The Kerala Story 2 was made on a controlled budget of Rs 28 crore, though official numbers have not been confirmed. With earnings surpassing Rs 10.4 crore net in just three days, the film is well on track to recover its costs comfortably. Analysts predict that continued positive audience reception could make it a profitable venture in its first week itself.
