New Delhi : The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has announced that Malayalam cinema icon Mohanlal will be conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2023. The honour, considered the highest recognition in Indian cinema, will be presented at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony on September 23.
Legendary Career Spanning Four Decades
Mohanlal, fondly called “Lalettan” by his fans, has been a towering figure in Indian cinema for over 40 years. Known for his versatility, the actor has excelled in action, drama, comedy, and art-house films, becoming one of the most respected performers in the country.
The 64-year-old superstar has acted in more than 350 films, primarily in Malayalam, but also in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi cinema. His career is marked by memorable performances in classics such as Kireedam, Bharatham, Vanaprastham, and Drishyam.

Past recipients include icons like Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Asha Bhosle, and Prithviraj Kapoor. Mohanlal’s name now joins this illustrious list, cementing his place among the greatest in the history of Indian films.
