Celebrating 30 years of Rangeela, Ahmed Khan recalls working with Aamir Khan and Urmila Matondkar, his debut as a choreographer, and his journey to becoming a director in Bollywood.

New Delhi : “Rangeela” has been out for 30 years, and Ahmed Khan, who made his choreography debut with the film alongside the late Saroj Khan, says it remains one of his favorite memories.

“Rangeela,” which starred Aamir Khan and Urmila Matondkar in the key roles, was directed by Ram Gopal Varma and premiered on September 8, 1995. The picture was re-released in theaters on Friday to commemorate its 30th anniversary.

“Rangeela Re,” “Pyaar Yeh Jaane Kaise,” “Hai Rama,” “Mangta Hai Kya,” and “Yaaron Sun Lo Zara” are some of the well-known songs from “Rangeela.”

“Thirty years later, memories are still vivid… Since it was my first movie, every scene is undoubtedly in front of me, and it’s entertaining. Every memory is pleasant and resides in the most exquisite region of my heart. In an interview with PTI, he said, “I won man of the match, and it was a career-building first match.”

The former choreographer who is now a director claimed that they were unaware that they were working magic on screen at the time.

However, we were certain that we were working on a project that would either be fully embraced or rejected. We simply accepted Ram Gopal Varma’s advice because he was the only one who was certain about it. And when you look at it now, you see that we were honest about everything. This is why the outcome was so excellent. Following his work as a choreographer for movies like “Mudhalvan” and “Nayak: The Real Hero,” Ahmed made his feature debut in 2004 with “Lakeer,” which starred Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, and John Abraham. His subsequent films include “Fool & Final” and the “Baaghi” sequel, despite the film’s poor box office performance.

The 51-year-old filmmaker, who was also a child actor in the Anil Kapoor-Sridevi film “Mr. India,” stated that he is glad he was able to fulfill his dream of becoming a director.

“I received a call from the direction while I was a little performer on “Mr. India.” I realized that the director is the one who handles everything when I observed Shekhar Kapur working on the sets. All of the others are the chariot’s horses, but the director is the man operating the chariot. I therefore thought that I wanted to be referred to as a filmmaker when I was 10 or 11 years old,” Ahmed stated.

“Over the years, I wrote, produced, and directed. I feel like I’ve completed the circle. And there’s still more to come. There will be many more,” he continued.

Ahmed said that his 2020 film “Baaghi 3” didn’t receive enough credit because it was released during the COVID-19 pandemic, but he was unable to select a single production when asked which movie he would like to see re-released.

“I can’t choose just one movie. What the audience is thinking, what they want to see, and what they don’t want to see are all unknown to me. However, I would argue that “Baaghi 3” was the one movie that I felt didn’t receive enough credit or a proper run. It was not given a clear run. It was the final movie to be released during the epidemic, and the theater closed for five or six days. “Welcome to the Jungle,” the third entry in the “Welcome” series, is his next film. The ensemble cast of the movie includes, among others, Suniel, Arshad Warsi, Raveena Tandon, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Akshay Kumar.

The director is confident that the audience will enjoy the movie.

“The movie is entertaining. We have a healthy cast, which is a jungle in and of itself, I believe.If you combine all of the best comedians in the movie, you will undoubtedly create something that people will enjoy. That’s what I’m working on,” he stated.
