In a dramatic development, actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered to Tihar Jail authorities in Delhi on Thursday after the Delhi High Court refused to grant him relief in his ongoing cheque-bounce cases. The court denied his plea for an extension, leaving Yadav with no option but to comply. According to a PTI source, “He surrendered to the jail authorities at 4 pm on Thursday. The authorities will now follow standard procedures.”
High Court Rejects Extension Request
The controversy escalated when the Delhi High Court on Wednesday declined to extend the deadline for Rajpal Yadav ’s surrender. His lawyer had requested additional time, stating that the actor had arranged ₹50 lakh but needed one more week to complete the payment. However, the court stood firm, citing Rajpal Yadav repeated delays. “This Court cannot be expected to create special circumstances for any individual simply because of their background or profession. While leniency is sometimes warranted, it cannot be extended indefinitely, especially when faced with continuous non-compliance,” the court remarked.

Background of the Cheque Bounce Case
The case stems from a complaint by M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd. against Rajpal Yadav and his wife over multiple bounced cheques and unpaid dues. A magisterial court in Delhi convicted the couple in 2018, sentencing Yadav to six months in prison. The sessions court upheld this ruling in 2019, after which the actor and his wife appealed to the Delhi High Court.
In June 2024, the high court temporarily stayed the conviction, urging Rajpal Yadav to take “sincere and genuine measures” to settle the matter amicably with the complainant. However, by February 2, the court had grown impatient with repeated breaches of undertakings and directed the actor to surrender, citing his failure to honour repayment commitments.
