A Love Story from the Early 2000s
Deepika Padukone, now one of India’s most successful and celebrated actresses, had moved to Mumbai in the early 2000s to pursue a modeling career, eventually transitioning into acting. “We were in a relationship for two years,” Muzammil shared, adding, “She was the first girl I dated when I moved to Mumbai. We were kids then.”
He reminisced about their early dating days, mentioning how they would often go out on rickshaw rides in the rain—a time that holds special emotional value for him.

The relationship, according to Muzammil, was marked by simplicity. Neither of them was financially well-off, but they found joy in little things.
“We didn’t have much money. I earned a little more, so when I bought my first car, she was genuinely happy,” he recalled.
He fondly recounted a special moment from one of Deepika’s birthdays, when he convinced a DJ to play her favorite song repeatedly for over an hour—just to make her day special.
“Even with no money, the DJ would play the song she liked because I was friends with him. That memory still makes me smile,” he said.

The actor also revealed that it was Deepika who initiated the relationship, but it was he who decided to end it. While he did not delve into the reasons behind the breakup, Muzammil stated that they parted on friendly terms and eventually supported each other’s careers from afar.
“We were on good terms even after the breakup. We would message each other occasionally and congratulate one another for achievements,” he said. “But we haven’t spoken since she got married to Ranveer Singh in 2019.”
Respectful Reflection on Deepika’s Stardom
Despite being a well-known face in modeling during the time they dated, Muzammil acknowledged that their journeys diverged sharply.
“I was a star then, and she wasn’t. Now, she’s a superstar, and no one really remembers me. But I’m a big fan of hers. She’s a beautiful woman and an incredible actress,” he admitted humbly.
He also spoke about her confidence even in those early years, attributing it to her lineage as the daughter of renowned badminton player Prakash Padukone.
“She was very confident. Everyone knew about her because of her father’s name,” he added.
