Kapil Sharma’s Netflix Show Sees Dip in Viewership Despite Star-Studded Line-up

Kapil Sharma’s much-loved Netflix series, The Great Indian Kapil Show, returned with its third season recently, but despite a grand opening episode featuring Salman Khan, the show is currently experiencing a steady decline in viewership.

The show, which kicked off Season 3 with Salman promoting his upcoming film Sikandar, made a strong debut by securing the 7th position in Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English Shows. According to Netflix’s internal data, the premiere episode attracted 1.6 million views and clocked 1.9 million viewing hours — an impressive start when compared to Season 2’s first episode featuring Alia Bhatt, which had 1.2 million views and 1.4 million viewing hours. However, it still fell short of Season 1’s premiere with Ranbir Kapoor, which pulled in a massive 2.4 million views.

Since the opener, though, the numbers have begun to slip. In the second week, the episode featuring the cast of Metro In Dino brought in a total of 2 million views across both episodes and 4.5 million viewing hours. While this appears to be a gain in total views, it’s actually a cumulative figure rather than a weekly high.

The third week saw an even steeper drop. Despite featuring a lineup of popular cricketers like Gautam Gambhir, Rishabh Pant, and Yuzvendra Chahal, the show could only gather 1.2 million cumulative views and 3.7 million viewing hours.

Still Holding Ground in India

Even with the decline, The Great Indian Kapil Show remains the only Indian show in Netflix’s Global Top 10 for non-English content. The format continues to follow the familiar structure fans love from The Kapil Sharma Show on Sony — light-hearted banter, celebrity guests, and comic sketches — making it a go-to platform for stars promoting upcoming releases.

The next episode is set to feature an exciting mix of actors: Jaideep Ahlawat, Vijay Varma, Pratik Gandhi, and Jitendra Kumar. With such a lineup, there’s hope the show could regain momentum.

The Netflix original first premiered in 2024 and has followed a format of 13 episodes per season. Season 3 currently has three episodes out, with more to follow in the coming weeks.
