Yo Yo Honey Singh shares his heroin addiction struggle, emotional battles, and recovery as he gears up for an 11-city India comeback tour.

The rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh has opened out about one of the darkest periods of his life—his protracted struggle with heroin addiction—as he prepares for a major 11-city tour across India. Singh is using his newfound prominence to warn young people about the trap that almost brought him down as he prepares for what he describes as one of the most significant comebacks of his career.

Singh talked openly about how addiction entered his life and caused long-lasting harm in an interview.

He went on to say, “It hurt me a lot, and I tell all my younger brothers and sisters that they should especially avoid drugs because they damage you so much, slowly, and you don’t even realize it.”

He revealed that after receiving a diagnosis and being informed of his deteriorating health, he stopped using drugs in 2014.

Singh said, “But even then, it still took me eight years to recover. It just wouldn’t leave my system. And I never want anyone, not even an enemy, to go through what I went through.”

His comments allude to years of emotional turmoil, health issues, and psychological damage that prevented him from participating in music and public life.

In just a few minutes, a rap was formed.

Singh claimed that despite the chaos, he continued to have surprising bursts of inspiration. “‘High Mera Dil’—I wrote it in 5 or 6 minutes,” he said, recalling the fastest song he had ever written. “No flow created. Just delivered whatever came.” He continued, “Even today, when we perform it, people connect instantly.”

How his marriage was impacted by addiction

Singh admitted in a previous interview that his relationship with his then-wife, Shalini Talwar, was significantly impacted by his addiction.

“Itne badhiya nahi rahe thhe uss waqt unke saath rishte.” He recalled how his unexpected fame drew him away from his family and added, “Dooriyan thhi.”

“2011 mei shaadi hone ke baad, 9–10 mahine humlog saath rahe thik thak. Uske baad success ekdum phaata. Mei phir ghar murha hi nahi,” he continued. “Bohot kharab kiya, mummy, papa, gudiya, and Shalini ko maine ekdum chhod diya thha.”

He still admits to the emotional load of isolation, neglect, and sorrow that characterized the time.

A worldwide comeback tour

With his recently announced international tour, Singh’s long-awaited comeback is beginning to take shape. Dubai will be the first stop, followed by several major markets, but the 11-city India leg has created the most buzz—marking his full-fledged return to massive live shows after years away from the spotlight.
