Bollywood mourns the loss of Dharmendra as family and celebrities attend heartfelt prayer services in Mumbai, celebrating the life of the legendary actor.

Two different prayer services were conducted in Mumbai on November 27 to honor the late movie legend Dharmendra, who died on November 24 at his home in Juhu, in an uncommon but incredibly moving day of sorrow.

For Dharmendra, two prayer meetings

Prakash Kaur, Dharmendra’s first wife, and their sons Bobby and Sunny Deol organized the first prayer service. Numerous coworkers, acquaintances, and members of the film business attended the Celebration of Life meet, which was held at a hotel in Bandra.

At Hema Malini’s bungalow, Dharmendra’s second wife and daughters, Esha and Ahana Deol, also had a separate prayer gathering. Throughout the day, close family friends came in silence to express their sympathies.

A calm bhajan sandhya celebrated the event at Hema Malini’s home. Sunita Ahuja, who brought her son Yashvardhan to the event, expressed her admiration for the actor and the poignant ambiance of the house.

The Bhagavad Gita and bhajans were the road Hema ji had followed. Thus, the Bhajans were listened to by everyone. In front of Hema ji, I couldn’t stop crying,” Sunita said. Hema responded, “What can one say… it’s a huge loss,” when asked how she was handling the situation. What a legend he was. My tears would not cease. I had a childhood crush on him. Right now, I am truly broken.

Sunita also relived some of her favorite moments, including a recent encounter during Ganesh Chaturthi and a stage performance with Dharmendra. “He was a true He Man of the industry and worked till the very last,” she remarked. He was a big-hearted man and a true Desi.

Actress Mahima Chaudhry and Bharat Takhtani were among the other people who were seen during Hema’s prayer meeting. Sunita explained that she had met Hema and Esha shortly after returning to Mumbai, but she was unable to attend the Deol family’s service at Taj Lands End.

At Bobby Deol and Sunny’s “Celebration of Life”

The cinema community turned out in force for the evening celebration at a hotel in Bandra, highlighting Dharmendra’s enormous impact across generations.

For the first time since the actor’s passing, the Deol family—Sunny, Bobby, their sisters Ajeeta and Vijeta, grandsons Karan and Rajveer, and nephew Abhay Deol—came together in public.

Notably, this prayer meeting was not attended by Hema Malini, Esha Deol, or Ahana Deol.

Many famous people came to pay their respects, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karan Johar, Rekha, Madhuri Dixit, Vidya Balan, Shabana Azmi, Sidharth Malhotra, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, Ameesha Patel, Nimrat Kaur, Sonu Sood, Anil Sharma, Abbas-Mastan, and many more.
A lovingly constructed tribute

A cozy, sentimental tribute was created in the hotel’s garden. The location was framed by floral arrangements, and a poignant montage of Dharmendra’s most famous scenes from movies like Sholay, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Apne, and Batwara was shown on several LED screens. The images featured glimpses of the man behind the legend through the incorporation of personal photos from his social media sites.

As vocalists played his timeless melodies, a giant image of Dharmendra stood in the center, overlooking the crowd. Many were clearly moved by Sonu Nigam’s performances of “Main Kahi Kavi Na Ban Jau,” “Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas,” “Apne Toh Apne Hote Hai,” “Ro Lene De,” and “Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge,” which lead the musical homage.

Hundreds of people flocked in throughout the evening to pay tribute to the star, but security remained strict.

Just before he passed away, Dharmendra, 89, was sent from Breach Candy Hospital to his home in Juhu due to age-related health problems.
