Aamir Khan Productions has officially unveiled the first look, release date, and final title of its much-awaited multi-starrer film. Earlier known as Lahore 1947, the film has now been retitled Batwara 1947, marking a significant update ahead of its theatrical release in 2026.
The announcement of Batwara 1947 also confirms its release date as August 14, 2026, a day before Independence Day, adding strong patriotic significance to the project.
First look of Batwara 1947 unveiled
Along with the title reveal, the makers also shared the first look giving audiences a glimpse into the intense and emotional world of the Partition era. The caption shared on social media read, “In times of hatred and fear, he chose courage. Watch Batwara1947 in theatres from August 14.”

The film features an impressive ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, and Karan Deol. Notably, Batwara 1947 also marks the return of Preity Zinta to the big screen after a long gap, creating additional buzz among fans.

Another highlight of Batwara 1947 is the on-screen collaboration between Sunny Deol and his son Karan Deol, who will be sharing screen space for the first time.
Title change and background
According to reports, the film was initially titled Lahore 1947, but Aamir Khan was reportedly not in favor of the name. The final title, Batwara 1947, carries historical significance and emotional depth.
Interestingly, the title Batwara originally belonged to the late producer Salim Akhtar, who had produced the 1989 film Batwara directed by JP Dutta. Aamir Khan is said to have personally approached Akhtar’s family to obtain the rights before officially announcing Batwara 1947.
Teaser expected on June 15
As per reports, the teaser is expected to release on June 15, building anticipation for one of the most ambitious period dramas in recent years.
