Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has finally put an end to the swirling rumours about stepping away from his iconic role as the host of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC). Amid widespread speculation suggesting that Salman Khan might take over hosting duties, Big B took to his personal blog to confirm that he is very much back — and already filming for the upcoming 17th season of the beloved quiz show.
Back on the Hot Seat: Bachchan Shares Glimpse from KBC Set
On Wednesday, the 81-year-old actor shared a few behind-the-scenes photos from the KBC set, featuring him seated at the host’s chair, computer in front, dressed in a vibrant multicoloured jacket and his signature glasses — topped off with a white cap. In his caption, he wrote:
“Shuru kar diya kaam… and the prep begins the beguine to be back to the people .. to be with them in their desires to improve life and livings .. the opportunity that changes lives .. in an hour .. my love and regard.”
His post was seen as a gentle, dignified way of confirming that he is indeed returning to the show that he has come to define for over two decades.
Rumours Dismissed: Salman Khan Was Never in the Picture
The speculation about Salman Khan taking over the hosting role surfaced in May, when a report by Bollywood Hungama claimed that Bachchan might exit due to “personal reasons.” A source had reportedly said, “Salman Khan is the king of the small screen, and if anyone can fill Big B’s shoes, it’s him. He has a strong connect with the audience, especially in smaller towns.” The report stirred widespread chatter, especially after Shah Rukh Khan’s brief hosting stint in the past.
However, with Bachchan himself now confirming his return through visuals and words, it’s clear the baton isn’t changing hands just yet.
KBC Season 17 Set to Premiere Soon
The 16th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati concluded earlier this year in February. By April, the makers had officially opened registrations for Season 17, inviting participants from across the country. Auditions and contestant profiling are currently underway, and the show is expected to go on air in August 2025.
As one of the most beloved faces of Indian television, Amitabh Bachchan’s return brings relief and joy to fans. With his charisma, baritone voice, and thoughtful presence, Big B continues to remain the heart and soul of Kaun Banega Crorepati.
