Silver Futures Surge 2.72% on MCX Amid Rising Geopolitical Tensions

by Desk

Silver prices surged to Rs 2,42,750/kg on Jan 5, 2026, with safe-haven demand rising due to geopolitical tensions and US economic expectations.

Today’s Silver Prices, January 5, 2026: Following strong global cues, silver prices staged a robust recovery in futures trading on Monday as investor enthusiasm for the white metal was bolstered by rising geopolitical tensions concerning Venezuela and expectations surrounding important US economic data.

Silver futures for March delivery increased by Rs 6,434, or 2.72 percent, to trade at Rs 2,42,750 per kg on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), with 13,112 lots of business. After silver fell by Rs 3,471, or 1.45%, over the previous week due to increased volatility, the rise signified a rebound.

Gains in foreign markets were reflected in the robust increase in domestic silver prices. Silver futures on the Comex increased by $4.19, or almost 6%, to $75.20 per ounce. Last week, the metal saw a significant correction, falling 8%, or $6.18.

Before experiencing a sharp sell-off and falling 14.1%, or $11.65, to settle at $71.01 per ounce by the end of the holiday-shortened week, silver had previously reached a record high of $82.67 per ounce.

Monday saw an improvement in market confidence as geopolitical threats reappeared after tensions associated with Venezuela escalated. Rahul Kalantri, Vice-President (Commodities) at Mehta Equities Ltd., claims that the safe-haven demand spurred by events in Latin America helped precious metals recover from last week’s turbulence.

While Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested that Washington might accomplish its goals without personally controlling Venezuela, US President Donald Trump stated over the weekend that the US would monitor the country until a true political transition was accomplished. The demand for safe-haven assets like silver increased as a result of these developments, which increased market uncertainty globally.
