The Indian car market continues to be dominated by SUVs, with the new Tata Nexon retaining its crown as the best-selling car in India with 19,430 units sold. Surprisingly, the only non-SUV in the top five is the new Maruti Dzire, which sold 19,326 units.

The recently facelifted Tata Punch now secures a place in the top three, moving 18,748 units thanks to new features, a CNG automatic variant, and improved design.

Creta and Brezza Maintain Strong Positions

The Hyundai Creta continues to dominate the 4-meter-plus SUV segment in India with 17,938 units sold, despite increased competition. Meanwhile, the Maruti Brezza also performs well with 17,863 units sold, despite being available in only a petrol engine option.

These five models represent the current leaders in India, with the Tata Punch emerging as the biggest new entrant to shake up rankings.

Tata’s Momentum, Maruti’s Presence

While the Tata Nexon has consistently held the top spot, the Punch’s strong debut adds to Tata Motors’ tally, giving the company a serious boost in the SUV segment.

Maruti Suzuki, however, still maintains the largest number of models in the top ten, including the Ertiga, Swift, and Wagon R. The key takeaway is that Tata now dominates the top three best selling cars in India, signaling a shift in consumer preference towards its SUVs.
