Arvind Kejriwal’s Strong Call to Youth for a Drug-Free Punjab: ‘Fight Until Every Ounce of Drugs is Gone
Kejriwal Calls on Punjab’s Youth to Join the War Against Drugs, Vows Zero Tolerance Policy
Ludhiana, April 2 – In a passionate appeal to the youth of Punjab, Arvind Kejriwal, National Convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former Chief Minister of Delhi, urged them to take a leading role in the state’s battle against the growing drug menace. Addressing a gathering before flagging off a major awareness march in Ludhiana, Kejriwal called for the youth to support the zero tolerance policy against drugs, committing to making Punjab a drug-free state.
He stressed that the youth had a crucial role in not only eradicating drugs from the state but also in protecting their future generations from the devastating impact of addiction.
The Drug Crisis in Punjab: A Call to Action
During his address, Kejriwal warned that the drug problem in Punjab could destroy the state’s future if left unchecked. “If this curse isn’t wiped out now, it will turn into a massive evil that will ruin the lives of countless individuals and families,” he said, underscoring the urgent need for collective action.
The AAP leader appealed directly to the youth, urging them to say no to drugs, emphasizing that addiction would only lead to personal destruction and negatively affect their loved ones.
Criticizing Previous Governments for Patronizing Drug Trade
Kejriwal didn’t mince words in his criticism of past state governments, accusing them of enabling the drug trade to flourish. “The previous governments in Punjab were not only turning a blind eye to the problem but were actively involved in the patronization of drug cartels, with many political leaders complicit in illegal activities,” he alleged. He further stated that these leaders had profited illegally from the thriving drug trade, thereby exacerbating the crisis and ruining the lives of thousands of youth.
“In the name of making money, they have destroyed generations of people. They will never be forgiven, either by God or by the people of Punjab,” Kejriwal added, stressing the moral responsibility to address the problem head-on.
AAP’s Strong Action Against Drug Peddlers
Kejriwal also highlighted the significant efforts made by the current Punjab government under the AAP-led leadership in combating the drug menace. He pointed to the successful operations that have dismantled large-scale drug cartels and confiscated the ill-gotten assets of drug peddlers, including the demolition of properties built from drug money.
“The government is committed to putting behind bars all those involved in the drug trade, no matter how influential they are,” Kejriwal asserted. He praised the role of security agencies and law enforcement, who have been instrumental in cracking down on drug peddlers and disrupting their supply chains.
The Punjab government’s tough stance against drug-related crimes is clear, with officials implementing severe punitive measures against offenders, including the confiscation of properties linked to drug money.
Involving Youth in the Fight: A Community-Based Approach
Arvind Kejriwal emphasized that the battle against drugs must involve the community, especially the youth. He encouraged young people to take an active role in their local communities, urging them to report any suspicious activity related to drug trafficking via the WhatsApp helpline at 9779100200. Kejriwal called on the youth to be vigilant, stating that it was crucial for them to “take responsibility” for the well-being of their villages and localities.
The former Delhi CM further urged young people to make a personal pledge to support the anti-drug movement by committing to never take drugs themselves, actively discouraging others from engaging in drug use, and standing against the sale of drugs in their communities.
Rehabilitation and Prevention: A Holistic Approach
Addressing the long-term needs of those already affected by drug addiction, Kejriwal outlined several rehabilitation initiatives introduced by the Punjab government. The government has rolled out the OutPatient Opioid Assisted Treatment Program (OOAT) at OPD levels to provide de-addiction services to those seeking recovery.
Additionally, the Punjab government is establishing rehabilitation centers across the state to offer comprehensive support for drug victims. To prevent future drug abuse, Kejriwal mentioned that playgrounds and gyms are being built in every village, offering an alternative space for youth to engage in healthier activities.
“We are working on creating an environment where the youth are engaged, educated, and empowered to make the right choices, far from the temptation of drugs,” he said.
A Unified Stand Against Drugs
Kejriwal concluded his speech by calling for unity and collaboration in the fight against drugs. He reiterated that the state government is committed to tackling the drug menace with an unwavering resolve and that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring a drug-free Punjab.
The AAP leader’s call to action is not just a political message but a commitment to a better future for Punjab. By rallying the youth and taking firm action against the drug trade, Kejriwal believes that Punjab can emerge victorious in its fight against addiction.
