CHANDIGARH — A 45-year-old Aam Aadmi Party leader was shot dead in broad daylight. Four armed men attacked AAP leader Gurpreet Singh Gopi in the main market of Mamdot town.
The incident took place late Saturday evening in the Ferozepur district. Furthermore, the shooting injured 22-year-old Harpreet Singh, who was riding along with him.
Assailants Ambush Victims in Busy Market
Four attackers arrived at the market in a car. Subsequently, they got out of their vehicle and opened fire at the victims.
Targeting AAP leader Gurpreet Singh Gopi directly, the gunmen fired multiple bullets. Moreover, Mamdot Nagar Panchayat president Vicky Maini was following in a separate car. Bullets hit Maini’s vehicle, but he escaped unharmed.

Police Identify Attackers Following Election Rivalry
Local people took both victims to the Civil Hospital immediately after the shooting. However, doctors declared AAP leader Gurpreet Singh Gopi dead upon arrival.
Medical staff transferred Harpreet Singh to Ludhiana for specialized care. Ferozepur Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh stated that the murder stems from municipal election rivalries. Additionally, police confirmed that the key suspect has a criminal record.
Security Heightened Across Border District
Police registered a case under murder charges and the Arms Act. Meanwhile, special teams are conducting raids across border areas to arrest the fleeing attackers.
