Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma condemned the behaviour of the Congress party during the India AI Impact Summit 2026, calling it “highly unfortunate and shameful” and accusing the party of attempting to tarnish India’s image on an international stage.

In a statement released on January 31, CM Bhajan Lal Sharma said that the Congress’s actions were unacceptable at a time when the world is recognising India’s achievements in technology, innovation, and artificial intelligence. Bhajan Lal Sharma noted that the summit brought together foreign delegates, investors, and leading technology experts who were positively discussing India’s digital revolution, global reputation, and AI leadership.

Bhajan Lal Sharma also accused the Congress of consistently prioritising political interests over national interest, citing previous instances where the party allegedly created confusion over trade agreements and questioned the valor of Indian soldiers during the Galwan incident. He stressed that India’s prestige belongs to its 1.4 billion citizens and demanded a public apology from the Congress and its leadership. He added that the public would reject what he described as negative and opportunistic politics.

The criticism came after a protest by Youth Congress members at Bharat Mandapam during the summit. Several BJP leaders condemned the demonstration. Former Union Minister Smriti Irani said the protest disrupted the AI Summit and remarked, “When a party’s ideas have been ‘out of stock’ for over a decade, theatrics become their final clearance sale.” She added, “‘Khisiyani Billi Khamba Noche!’ It takes rare political bankruptcy to turn a global summit into a stage for embarrassing the nation before the world.”

During the protest, India Youth Congress National Coordinator Narsimha and several members were detained by Delhi Police. The Youth Congress said the protest was against a “compromised Prime Minister who has traded the identity of the country at the AI Summit.” Police confirmed that the demonstrators had registered online for the summit and that the incident occurred around 12:30 pm, with legal proceedings initiated following the detentions.
