UIDAI Launches Redesigned Aadhaar App 2026 with Enhanced Privacy and Verification Features

New Aadhaar App introduces QR-based offline verification, face authentication, and multiple profiles on one device

by Tamanna

India’s digital identity framework is set for a major upgrade as the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) rolls out a redesigned Aadhaar mobile app for 2026. The new app promises stronger privacy protections, simpler identity verification, and greater control over personal data for Aadhaar Number Holders (ANH).

The revamped app is designed to provide a secure, smartphone-based platform for sharing and verifying identity while minimizing risks from phishing, OTP fraud, and cyber scams.

Consent-Based Data Sharing

Unlike earlier versions, the updated Aadhaar App emphasizes minimal and consent-driven data sharing. Users can now disclose only the specific details needed for a transaction, rather than sharing full demographic information. This reflects UIDAI’s push toward a model where individuals control how and when their Aadhaar details are used.

The app simplifies everyday identity verification by allowing users to complete checks via their phones, eliminating the need to hand over physical copies of documents or Aadhaar cards.

QR-Based Offline Verification

A standout feature of the 2026 app is QR-based offline identity verification, enabling users to authenticate themselves without revealing excessive personal information or requiring constant internet connectivity.

This feature is particularly useful for situations like hotel check-ins, where users can generate a secure QR code instead of submitting physical Aadhaar copies. It can also facilitate age verification for services such as movie tickets, as well as visitor authentication in workplaces and hospitals. Gig workers and service partners who frequently need to prove their identity can also benefit from this streamlined process.

Face Authentication for Quick Access

The new app introduces optional face authentication, allowing users to verify their identity through facial recognition. This provides a faster alternative to OTP-based verification while complementing existing biometric systems.

Enhanced Security and Biometric Controls

Security remains a key focus in the 2026 Aadhaar App. Users can activate a one-tap biometric lock and instantly disable biometric authentication if misuse is suspected. The app also allows users to review their authentication history, tracking when and where their Aadhaar credentials were used.

Additionally, a QR contact card feature lets users share verification details securely without revealing full Aadhaar information.

Multiple Profiles on One Device

Acknowledging that smartphones are often shared among family members, the app now supports up to five Aadhaar profiles on a single device, allowing secure management of family members’ identity details from one app.

The updated Aadhaar App is available on both Android and iOS, enhancing accessibility across devices and ensuring broader reach for Indian citizens.
