Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday inspected the ongoing construction of the Kurji (Rajiv Nagar) and Anandpuri drain projects, reaffirming the government’s focus on tackling persistent waterlogging and traffic congestion in the city. During his visit to the Ashiyana–Digha Road area, he directed officials to accelerate the pace of work and ensure timely completion, especially to provide relief from recurring monsoon flooding.
The projects aim to concretise existing drains and build roads over them — a dual-purpose model intended to enhance water discharge capacity while simultaneously expanding urban road infrastructure. Officials said the upgraded system will help prevent water accumulation in vulnerable localities and improve connectivity through newly constructed two-lane roads above the drainage channels.

Nitish Kumar Says ‘Pragati Yatra’ Feedback Shaped Patna’s Integrated Drainage and Road Upgrade Plan
The Chief Minister Nitish Kumar noted that the initiatives originated from assurances made during the “Pragati Yatra” in February 2025, when he reviewed development works in Patna district and residents highlighted issues related to poor drainage and limited road access. Authorities said feedback gathered during those interactions significantly influenced the integrated design of the current projects, which combine drainage reform with transport enhancement.

The Rajiv Nagar drain, a key element of Patna’s stormwater network, extends approximately 4.26 kilometres from Digha Ashiyana Road to the Kurji pumping station. Meanwhile, the Anandpuri drain spans nearly 4 kilometres, running from Baba Chowk via Atal Path and near A.N. College before linking to the Rajapur Pul pumping station. Together, the projects are expected to modernise the city’s drainage framework while improving mobility in densely populated neighbourhoods.
