In a significant political development in Punjab, Sardar Amarjeet Singh Kokri Kalan, former State Financial Secretary of the BJP SC Wing, joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday. He was formally inducted into the party by Punjab Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on behalf of AAP Punjab President Aman Arora and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Addressing the media, Cheema stated that Amarjeet Singh has long been actively involved in public service in the Nihal Singh Wala region and enjoys a positive reputation among the people. He said that his decision to join AAP reflects the increasing faith of citizens in the work and policies of the Mann Government.
Amarjeet Singh Influenced by AAP’s Pro-People Governance Model
Cheema further said that Amarjeet Singh Kokri Kalan chose to leave the BJP after becoming disappointed with what he described as the party’s anti-people approach. He added that Amarjeet Singh was particularly influenced by AAP’s governance initiatives in Punjab, including 300 units of free electricity and the ₹10 lakh health insurance scheme, which have directly benefited common families.
Highlighting AAP’s political stance, Cheema said that the Aam Aadmi Party is the only political force that truly stands with the common people and delivers results on the ground.
He also informed that along with Amarjeet Singh, several of his supporters — including sarpanches, panches, and nambardars — joined AAP under the leadership of Manjeet Singh Bilaspur. Welcoming the new members, Cheema assured them of full respect and appropriate responsibilities within the party structure.
Cheema noted that Amarjeet Singh had earlier served the country in the armed forces and later remained active in social and political life. He described the induction of such experienced individuals into AAP as an indication that Punjab is steadily moving towards politics centered on development, transparency, and public welfare.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, Cheema said the Mann Government has consistently worked for the upliftment of all sections of society, particularly Dalits, the underprivileged, farmers, labourers, and youth. He emphasized that AAP remains dedicated to ensuring dignity, equal opportunities, and essential services for every citizen of Punjab.
