Bhopal: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on Tuesday directed state officials to accelerate efforts to boost fish production and empower fishermen in Madhya Pradesh. Speaking during a review meeting of the Fishermen Welfare and Fisheries Development Department at the Mantralaya, the CM emphasized that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state government is committed to ensuring economic prosperity for farmers and fishermen alike.

Dr. Yadav highlighted Madhya Pradesh’s leadership in agricultural production and stressed that similar focus must be applied to fisheries, aiming to double fish production in the coming years. He instructed officials to develop a robust aquaculture ecosystem to promote economic empowerment for fishermen and ensure systematic utilization of fisheries federations operating across the state.

Action Plan Launched to Boost Fish Production and Aquaculture in Madhya Pradesh

The Chief Minister announced that the year is being observed as dedicated to Krishak Kalyan, and directed preparation of an action plan to make Madhya Pradesh the leading state in fisheries in India. He called for organizing fishermen conferences, incentivizing high-performing fish farmers, enhancing seed production, and developing district-level model projects in areas with low groundwater. These models would combine fish production with aquaculture activities such as singhada, lotus seed, and makhana cultivation.

During the meeting, departmental officers briefed the CM on the Madhya Pradesh Cage Culture Policy, which plans to prepare 10,000 cages under a beneficiary-oriented scheme and 90,000 cages under an entrepreneur model to increase fish production. Officials also provided updates on the Chief Minister Fishermen Prosperity Scheme, the proposed Integrated Aqua Park and Research Centre in Bhopal, and plans for constructing fish houses at the divisional level.
