DELHI : AAP raises controversy in Delhi as Bhalswa landfill garbage allegedly dumped in rural areas, sparking clash with BJP-led MCD on Thursday.
AAP Alleges Waste Mismanagement
AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj accused the BJP government of transferring waste from Bhalswa landfill to vacant lands in Delhi Dehat. Posting a video on X, he alleged that thousands of truckloads of garbage, including plastics, polythene, and glass, were being dumped in villages allegedly under the orders of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Citing her earlier remark that “garbage mountains must go,” Bharadwaj claimed that instead of proper scientific disposal, waste was being pushed into rural areas.

He warned that this practice was turning Delhi into a “dumping ground,” putting public health at risk, and could make the city India’s “cancer capital.” Villages like Mundka, Karala, Rani Khera, Bawana, Kanjhawala, and Sultanpur were named as being affected. In the video, a party worker specifically claimed that waste from Bhalswa was being dumped near Karala village and could pose serious health risks. The worker also noted that a previous landfill project in the area had been stopped during AAP’s government.
MCD Denies Allegations, Explains Waste Management
Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh dismissed these allegations as “misleading, baseless, and politically motivated.” He stated that no unprocessed waste was being dumped in rural areas and accused AAP of trying to mislead the public. Singh explained that the MCD is managing waste scientifically through bio-mining and bio-remediation at Bhalswa, Okhla, and Ghazipur landfills. He added that over 168.36 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste had been processed, with the current bio-mining capacity at 30,000 tonnes per day. The material seen in the videos, he said, was processed inert waste or soil being used for land leveling and construction.The Mayor also questioned why garbage mountains were not addressed during AAP’s decade-long rule in Delhi. He reaffirmed that the BJP-led civic body is committed to environmental standards, public health, and transparency, urging the opposition to act responsibly rather than spreading misinformation through social media.
