Punjab Police foil heroin smuggling; 4 arrested, 19.98 kg heroin seized. Cross-border drug network under investigation.

Punjab Police, DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav stated  that the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Border Range, in a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF), has recovered a haul of 19.980 kg heroin and apprehended four accused, including the key operative managing the supply chain, in a major crackdown on trans-border smuggling amid the ongoing drive to make Punjab a drug-free state as directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

The people who were taken into custody are Ashu Sharma, also known as Ashu, who lives in Chheharta, Amritsar, and a 17-year-old juvenile who lives in Amritsar. Sahibjit Singh, also known as Sahib, and Rajwinder Singh, also known as Golu, are both inhabitants of Old Naraingarh in Amritsar. Police have seized their Maruti Brezza automobile and two motorcycles in addition to the heroin haul they recovered.

Preliminary inquiry has shown that the accused is connected to handlers based in Pakistan and was organizing the delivery and distribution of drug shipments around the region, according to DGP Gaurav Yadav. To find cross-border handlers, track supply chains, and take down the entire network, further research is being done, he said.

SP ANTF Border Range Gurpreet Singh provided operational details, stating that trustworthy information had been obtained that the accused had traveled to the border region to retrieve a heroin shipment that had been transported via a drone. The four accused and the Brezza automobile used in the crime were successfully intercepted by a joint ANTF and BSF squad that acted quickly on the intelligence and set a naka at a strategic spot, he said.

According to the SP, a combined search operation was carried out at BOP Ghogga, which is under the jurisdiction of Police Station Bhindi Saidan, District Amritsar, based on the disclosures made by the arrested accused. He added that 19.980 kg of heroin, divided into five packs, was found during the search in the fields close to the village of Bhindi Aulakh.

Under sections 21, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act, a case FIR No. 06 dated 06.01.2026 has been filed at Police Station ANTF, SAS Nagar.
