Punjab Vigilance Bureau cracks down on corrupt officials; Sangrur Tehsildar held for Rs. 30,000 bribe, more arrests expected.

According to the zero tolerance policy implemented by the Punjab administration led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has detained Jagtar Singh, a Tehsildar assigned to the Sangrur district, for taking a bribe of Rs. 30,000. Soon, his co-accused will be taken into custody. When the accused Tehsildar’s home was searched, Rs. 1,45,000 was found.

An official state VB spokesperson revealed this today, stating that the arrest was conducted in response to a complaint made by a Mehlan village district Sangrur resident against Jagtar Singh Tehsildar and Malvinder Singh Clerk, who were stationed at the Sangrur tehsil office. He added that the complainant claimed he had asked the accused to complete the registry of the land he had bought. For completing the land registry, the accused were paid a bribe of Rs. 30,000.

The aforementioned accusations were confirmed to be genuine once the complaint was verified. In this regard, both of the accused have been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB Police Range in Patiala. He said that more research is being done on this matter. The Vigilance Bureau requests that Punjabi citizens notify us of any instances of corruption. The Vigilance Bureau is dedicated to taking strong measures against all corrupt officials.
