Punjab Police launches Vision 2026: ₹800+ crore modernization, faster 112 ERSS response, drones, AI systems, CCTV upgrades, and new police infrastructure.
DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav presented the Punjab Police’s ambitious and technologically advanced “Vision 2026,” which is focused on a significant infrastructure and capabilities development.
The Dial 112 Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) upgrading is a major priority. A dedicated Dial 112 Central control room building will be built in Mohali at a cost of ₹52 crores, and a fleet of vehicles will be expanded at a cost of ₹50 crores.In addition, the DGP stated that District Control Rooms throughout Punjab are being upgraded with an investment of ₹25 crores to ensure seamless coordination and faster incident management, which will directly contribute to the reduced response time target. “Our target is to drastically reduce the current average response time of 12-13 minutes to just 7-8 minutes,” the DGP stated.
DGP was presenting the Punjab Police’s future roadmap at a news conference with Sukhchain Singh Gill of IGP Headquarters. At a cost of ₹49.58 crores, the Second Line of Defence would install 2,367 CCTV cameras at 585 places along the International Border to serve as force multipliers for border security, according to DGP.
He added that Drone Response Teams (DRTs) have also been pushed into action and will be greatly synergised with Village Defence Committees (VDC) members’ involvement in the upcoming year. The Anti-Drone System (ADS) fleet will be expanded from the current three operational systems to an additional six under procurement, with ten more to be procured later in a phased manner.
The DGP emphasized the ongoing modernization effort, revealing that the Punjab government had invested more than ₹800 crores in the previous three years to modernize the Punjab Police. “In addition to all the police stations and police posts having new vehicles, all the SP rank officers in the field have also received new vehicles,” he stated.
He went on to say that a massive police building project for ₹426 crores has been approved by the state government and will be constructed over the course of the next three years. This includes eleven new police station buildings, new police lines in the districts of Nawanshahr and Malerkotla, and a new headquarters for the Cyber Crime section at Phase 4 in Mohali. The current ANTF range offices will be updated with contemporary technology and forensic instruments, and new ones will be established in Ludhiana, Ferozepur, and Jalandhar.
The DGP stated that the Punjab government has already announced a witness protection system in accordance with the New Criminal Laws, which will further contribute in raising the conviction rate. Depending on the workload, all police stations will have their network bandwidth increased by 50 Mbps to 100 Mbps.
In addition to other cutting-edge features, he said that the Punjab Artificial Intelligence System (PAIS 2.0) now supports voice analysis, and the Organized Criminal Information System (OCIS), a potent digital solution intended to simplify the administration of criminal records, is being further upgraded.
The DGP further emphasized that Punjab Police will concentrate on conducting a comprehensive investigation to find and punish travel agents who obtain or facilitate passports for organized crime using false information.
According to the DGP, specific Traffic and Road Safety Police Stations will be set up to enhance traffic management and emergency response in urban areas. According to him, they will be connected with Integrated Command & Control Centers (IC3) enabling real-time surveillance using adaptive traffic signals and city CCTV feeds.
