Punjab Finance Department approves recruitment of 1,568 ANMs and Staff Nurses under NHM. Monthly pay set at Rs 21,700-29,700 to boost healthcare services.

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced on Tuesday that the Finance Department has approved the Health and Family Welfare Department’s proposal to fill 1,568 open positions of ANMs and Staff Nurses under the National Health Mission (NHM), a major step toward bolstering the state’s healthcare infrastructure.

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema provided additional information about the hiring campaign, stating that the approval covers the filling of 839 open Staff Nurse positions against 1,896 sanctioned posts and 729 open ANM positions against 2,000 sanctioned posts. He underlined that the state government has made filling these contract-based positions a top priority since it is dedicated to making sure that staff shortages do not impede healthcare services.

The Finance Minister said that the expected yearly financial impact of these hirings is Rs 48.88 crore, underscoring the administration led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s financial commitment to this effort. According to expense breakdowns, the ANM positions cost Rs 18.98 crore annually, while the staff nurse roles cost Rs 29.90 crore. He clarified that the monthly compensation has been set at Rs 21,700 for ANMs and Rs 29,700 for staff nurses under the authorized pay structure.

Cheema added that Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot is proposing to administer a written exam as part of the recruitment procedure in order to guarantee merit and transparency. He went on to say that the Finance Department had given its permission, subject to the Administrative Department securing the required consent from the Personnel Department for these appointments.

“With this decision, the state government is poised to strengthen its healthcare workforce, which will ultimately lead to improved healthcare services for the people of Punjab,” FM Cheema said, highlighting the Punjab government’s steadfast commitment to prioritize healthcare and education. According to him, the state’s capacity to offer efficient and effective healthcare facilities will surely be improved by filling these positions, underlining the government’s dedication to the welfare of its people.
