‘Bill Liyao Inaam Pao’; 227 won prizes worth more than Rs 13 lakh for September – Harpal Singh Cheema

Chandigarh, October 10 : Punjab Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuesday said that 227 winners won prizes worth Rs 13,39,425 for uploading bills on “Mera Bill App” in the month of September under ‘Bill Liyao Inaam Pao’ scheme. He said the online lucky draw was conducted on Monday by the committee appointed by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led Punjab government.

Disclosing this in a press communiqué issued here, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that among the winners, the highest number of 38 winners were from Taxation district of Ludhiana; while in the second place 21 winners were from Taxation district of Jalandhar. He said that the enthusiasm received by this scheme from different parts of the state is evident from the fact that 14 winners were from Taxation district of Amritsar, 10 each from Taxation districts of Barnala, Gurdaspur and Faridkot, 9 each from taxation districts of Sri Muktsar Sahib, Bathinda and Moga, 8 each from taxation districts of Fatehgarh Sahib, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Patiala, Kapurthala, Pathankot, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Hoshiarpur and Tarn Taran, 7 each from taxation districts of Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar and Rupnagar, 6 from taxation district of Mansa, and 5 from taxation district of Sangrur.

Revealing further, the Finance Minister said that 81 people won prize money of Rs 10,000 each. He said that the reward under this scheme is equivalent to the five times of the taxable value of goods/services declared in the bill with maximum capping of Rs. 10,000/- each reward. He said that the list of winners has been published on the website of the Taxation Department.

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that a total of 227 persons were entitled to the prize during the online lucky draw while the names of 63 other persons were rejected after verification of the bills uploaded by them. He said that the bills uploaded by some of these persons were of month of August and not of September, in some cases bills of petrol were uploaded, some of the bills were related to purchases made outside Punjab and in one case the bill uploaded was related to business to business transaction.

The Finance minister said the sale bills of petroleum products (crude oil, petrol, diesel, aviation turbine fuel and natural gas) and liquor as well as B2B (business to business) transactions are not eligible for participation in this scheme.

Appealing the people to get the bills of their purchases, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the people of Punjab should participate in this scheme as much as possible so that the message of tax compliance can be conveyed from house to house so that the state revenue can be further strengthened to run the various welfare schemes in a more effective manner.
