AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang urges the Centre to release a ₹50,000 crore relief package for Punjab’s flood-hit 2,500 villages, accusing the government of neglect.

During the Lok Sabha session, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Malvinder Singh Kang brought up the serious problem of the devastation brought on by the severe floods in Punjab. He urged the central government to provide the flood-affected areas with a special relief package of ₹50,000 crore right away. Even after two months, Kang claimed that not a single rupee had been distributed to the 2,500 villages spread across six districts impacted by the floods, accusing the Indian government of prejudice.

According to Kang, Punjab saw severe flooding a few months back. Approximately 2,500 villages in six districts were totally destroyed as a result of severe floods. He reported that more than 5 lakh acres of crops had been totally destroyed. According to Kang, the border districts had the worst effects. “During ‘Operation Sindoor,’ the people of these districts stood side by side with the Indian Army,” he continued.

Kang expressed his distress, saying that even after two months, the Indian government had not provided a single rupee to assist the residents of these six districts in rebuilding their lives and rehabilitating themselves, despite the Prime Minister and a number of Union Ministers visiting Punjab following the floods. “When elections are held in Bihar, you announce packages of ₹50,000 crore, ₹70,000 crore, even ₹90,000 crore,” he added, addressing the prime minister.

“There can be no greater discrimination than this,” he continued, adding that Punjab is the state that contributed most to India’s freedom struggle and to supplying the country’s food reserves, yet is nevertheless left behind in times of need. He added that Punjab was not assisted in this catastrophe by the governments of Rajasthan and Haryana, which demand and claim Punjab’s water share.

For individuals impacted by the floods in Punjab, whose houses, hospitals, roads, and complete infrastructure have been wrecked, and whose 5 lakh acres of crops have been destroyed, Kang urged the Indian government to promptly give a special package of ₹50,000 crore. He claimed that this money would assist Punjabis who fight for their country, particularly those living in border regions, in getting back on their feet.
