CU Punjab launches community radio 89.6 FM to promote education, awareness, and empowerment across Bathinda villages and nearby communities.
By launching its community radio station, “CU Punjab Radio 89.6 FM,” on Wednesday, the Central University of Punjab created a potent new avenue for community development, education, and empowerment that puts the university in close contact with the general public.
In the august presence of the Special Guest, AICTE Chairperson Prof. T. G. Sitharam, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, commissioned the community radio station at the University campus in Village Ghudda, District Bathinda. With relevant, educational, and inspirational programming, the broadcasts will reach nearby villages and communities within a roughly 10-kilometer radius. Monday through Friday, the station will broadcast for four hours, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM to 3:00 to 5:00 PM.
This breakthrough, according to the vice chancellor, is a revolutionary step toward social consciousness and inclusive education. Community radio, according to him, is “a medium that reaches the unreached and plays a pivotal role in supplementing and promoting education among the masses.” He emphasized the radio’s broader societal relevance, saying it will be a useful medium for addressing significant social issues including drug misuse, corruption, and mental health issues. It will also help raise awareness and prepare for disaster management.

AICTE Chairperson Prof. T. G. Sitharam expressed gratitude for the creation of this important communication channel and predicted that CU Punjab Radio would develop into a powerful tool that would significantly raise the standard of living for residents of Bathinda district. He went on to say that the station is more than just a broadcast frequency; it is a link between society and knowledge, a voice of empowerment and social responsibility that has the capacity to change communities by transforming knowledge into inspiration and advancement.
Professors Tiwari and Sitharam expressed optimism in their first broadcast that CU Punjab Radio’s radio waves will improve the connection between knowledge and society by promoting empowerment, education, awareness, and public involvement throughout the region.
Programs on health, agriculture, higher education, skill development, employment, women’s empowerment, youth leadership, the environment, and social welfare will be broadcast on CU Punjab Radio 89.6 FM. These programs are inspired by Punjabi culture and are based on the public service ethos and the guiding principle “Vidya Vichari Ta Parupkari.” To meet the changing needs and goals of the community, talk programs and discussion series will offer new perspectives, vigor, and approaches.
