Punjab Police arrested 83 drug smugglers in 271 raids under the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, seizing heroin, poppy husk, tablets, and drug money.

Following the filing of 63 first information reports (FIRs) throughout the state, Punjab Police conducted raids at 271 locations on Tuesday, resulting in the arrest of 83 drug smugglers as part of the ongoing “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign against drugs, which Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has been waging for the 276th day in a row to eradicate the drug menace from the state. This brings the total number of drug smugglers apprehended in 276 days to 38,904.

1.7 kg of heroin, 3 kg of ganja, 40 kg of poppy husk, 682 intoxicant tablets, and Rs 1.20 lakhs in drug money were found in the custody of apprehended drug smugglers as a result of the operations.

Notably, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has requested that the Senior Superintendent of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Commissioners of Police make Punjab a drug-free state. A five-member Cabinet Subcommittee headed by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has also been established by the Punjab government to oversee the anti-drug campaign.

271 raids have been carried out around the state by more than 100 police teams, which consist of more than 800 police officers, overseen by 55 gazetted officers. Over the course of the day-long operation, police officers have also checked up to 278 questionable individuals.

In an effort to eradicate drugs from the state, the state government has implemented a three-pronged strategy: Enforcement, Drug Abuse, and Prevention (EDP).
