Ram Gopal Varma defends his ‘thunder thighs’ comment, saying Sridevi’s physique contributed to her stardom, sparking renewed controversy.

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has reiterated his conviction that Sridevi’s physical attributes were a major factor in her ascent to popularity and defended his long-criticized comments regarding her “thunder thighs.” Varma insists that if she had been constructed differently, she would not have experienced the same degree of fame, despite years of criticism.

Varma rehashed the controversy he caused with his previous remarks regarding Sridevi’s appearance when he joined a podcast on the Zoom YouTube channel. Despite acknowledging the criticism, he persisted in defending his position.

Why is objectification a bad thing? She possessed that in addition to her talent. Calling it objectification, in my opinion, is objectification. What makes a person special? There will be explanations. You shouldn’t confine it to the fact that she is an excellent human being and an actress. This might potentially be the cause. Why stay away from it? She’s not an actor, when did I say that? I was stating that her thunder thighs also played a part in her notoriety.

He went one step farther and insisted that her star appeal was partly due to her physique. In my opinion, she would never have achieved stardom if she had tiny legs. They were included in the entire bundle. I doubt that Amitabh Bachchan would have achieved fame if he had been six inches shorter. Or I’m not sure if Shah Rukh Khan would have been a huge star if he had been six inches taller.

Varma added that his remarks had been made in fun at the time and also gave some thought to the controversy that had developed back in 2015.

What took place in 2015

The dispute started when Varma dedicated a part of his book Guns and Thighs to Sridevi, whom he directed in Hairaan, Govindhaa Govindhaa, and Great Robbery. He freely discussed his lifelong fascination with the actress in the book, even going so far as to say that he “hated” Boney Kapoor for “bringing that angel down from heaven to such an ordinary, humdrum existence.”

“Srideviji’s fame is not only because of her acting ability but also because of her thundering thighs — top critics of Himmatwala time,” Varma tweeted back then, defending his comments. Why wasn’t Smita Patil greater than Srideviji if stardom is solely determined by acting ability?The difference was the thunder thighs.
