Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrests PSPCL JE Nirmal Singh and contractor Satnam Singh in Dasuya for taking a Rs 15,000 bribe after a recorded complaint and VB trap.
As part of its continuing anti-corruption campaign, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) detained Satnam Singh, a government-approved contractor, and Nirmal Singh, a junior engineer of PSPCL stationed in Dasuya, district Hoshiarpur, for knowingly taking a bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant.
According to a VB spokeswoman, the complainant, a cab driver who lives in the hamlet of tehsil Dausya in the district of Hoshiarpur, owns a 13-marla parcel of land where three-phase wires are connected to the motor of one Kanta S/o Desa Singh. The complainant applied to Dasuya, a PSPCL sub division, to have these wires moved to one side of his plot.
He added that after doing a site survey, JE Nirmal Singh asked the complainant for Rs. 5,000 to provide an estimate. He processed the estimate after receiving this bribe and then requested an additional Rs. 5,000.

The complainant’s home was then inspected once more by contractor Satnam Singh and JE Nirmal Singh. JE Nirmal Singh claimed during this visit that the contractor was requesting Rs. 12,000 in order to move the wires. The complainant agreed to pay Rs. 10,000 after discussions. Additionally, JE Nirmal Singh inquired as to when the complainant would give him the final Rs 5,000. In response, the complainant stated that payment will be made the same day the work was completed. He stated that although contractor Satnam Singh moved the wires in accordance with the authorized blueprint, the complainant failed to pay the bribe on that particular day.
Furthermore, he claimed that both accused called the complainant numerous times and persisted in requesting unlawful reward even after the government charge had already been paid. After recording the audio exchanges on his cell phone, the complainant went to the Vigilance Bureau.
The Vigilance Bureau obtained a recorded complainant statement at VB Unit Jalandhar in response to the complainant’s information. Following the verification of the claims, VB set up a trap and caught both accused in the act of collecting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant in front of two official witnesses.
At the Police Station Vigilance Bureau in Range Jalandhar, a case has been filed against the accused under the applicable provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Additional investigation is under progress, and the accused will appear in a court of competent jurisdiction tomorrow.
