India’s successful bid to host the 100th Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad in 2030 has been praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who called it a historic milestone that solidifies the nation’s growing prominence in international sport. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) officially announced Ahmedabad as the host city , making India’s comeback as a host after over ten years.
Modi praised the accomplishment and acknowledged the role played by the country’s sports sector in a post on X. “Happy that India has been selected to host the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games! Congratulations to the Indian populace and the sports community. India is now firmly positioned on the international athletic map thanks to our shared dedication and attitude of sportsmanship,” he stated.

The victory, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, is evidence of Modi’s sustained commitment to sports facilities. He wrote, “This is a testament to PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s vision for turning our Bharat into a global sports hotspot,” attributing the empowerment of Indian sportsmen to “over a decade” of infrastructural development and reforms.
What to anticipate at 2030 Ahmedabad
According to Commonwealth Sport, there will be 15–17 different sports at the Games. In order to finalize a program that has international appeal with significant local cultural resonance, the Ahmedabad 2030 team will collaborate extensively with international athletic groups.

Archery, badminton, T20 cricket, hockey, rugby sevens, shooting, wrestling, triathlon, and more are among the other sports that are presently being examined. Up to two new or traditional sports may be proposed by hosts, giving India a special opportunity to highlight regional favorites.

Team Scotland swimmer Duncan Scott described hosting the Games as a “special” experience. “I’m thrilled that Indian sportsmen will have the opportunity to achieve that in 2030. We have the chance to broaden our perspectives and take in Ahmedabad’s and India’s ambition and vibrancy,” he remarked.
The chance to compete domestically would be a strong incentive, according to Indian boxing champion Jaismine Lamboria. “India’s selection to host the Centenary Commonwealth Games is a really glorious event. “Athletes and fans are in for a very warm and lively welcome,” she remarked.
The Commonwealth Games were previously held in India in 2010 in New Delhi. The quadrennial event’s 100th anniversary will fall during the 2030 Ahmedabad Games, marking a historic occasion that will now take place on Indian soil.
