The most recent Bollywood star to petition the court to protect her personality rights is Shilpa Shetty. After learning that several websites were exploiting her photos, likeness, and altered images without her consent, the star filed a complaint in the Bombay High Court.

The lawsuit reportedly names a number of websites that are accused of using her picture for profit. Her concerns have grown as a result of an increase in doctored images and films becoming viral online, leading to immediate legal action.

Legal Action Confirmed by Advocate: “An Assault on Her Dignity”

Advocate Sana Raees Khan, who filed Shilpa’s suit, emphasized that the actor’s identity cannot be used without their express agreement.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, she stated, “Ms. No organization may use Shilpa Shetty’s name or likeness without permission because she has established her reputation through decades of hard work. Her dignity and hard-won reputation are being openly attacked by the unapproved commercial exploitation of her identity. We will make sure that her personality rights are strictly enforced, and no person or platform has the authority to use her reputation for illegal financial benefit. We have petitioned the Bombay High Court to stop this abuse and protect her identity from being used as a commodity.

An Increasing Celebrity Trend

Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Karan Johar, Jaya Bachchan, Rishab Shetty, Hrithik Roshan, and Akkineni Nagarjuna have all recently petitioned courts for similar protections, and Shilpa is yet another actor seeking legal protection amid the growing misuse of celebrity identities online.
