UP CM Yogi Adityanath directs district administrations to identify illegal immigrants, set up temporary detention centers, and ensure strict action per rules.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, has emphasized the state’s emphasis on security and compliance by demanding that all officials take harsh action against unregistered inhabitants and set up temporary detention facilities. According to a report which cited an official, Yogi Adityanath has directed all district magistrates in the state to take swift and severe action against illegal immigrants.

He reaffirmed that his administration’s top priority are social peace, national security, and law and order, and that any illegal action would not be allowed.

Each district of UP has a detention center?

These centers will house illegal immigrants who hold foreign citizenship, the brief statement said, and they would remain there until the required verification process is finished.

“The chief minister has directed that each district administration ensure the identification of illegal immigrants living in their area and initiate action as per the rules,” said the statement. “The chief minister has also directed that temporary detention centres be established in each district to house infiltrators,” it continued.

Until the necessary verification procedure is finished, illegal immigrants with foreign citizenship will be detained in these centers, the statement said. Adityanath stated that, in accordance with established protocols, people detained in the detention facilities will be sent back to their home countries.

In response to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directive to detect and apprehend illegal infiltrators, Congress leader Ajay Rai took action. Since 2017, this administration has been led by Yogi ji for eight years, and they still haven’t been able to find infiltrators. He claimed that this was only an attempt to deceive and generate hype.

Although people of both countries are free to travel over Uttar Pradesh’s open border with Nepal, inhabitants of other nationalities are subject to restrictions. In anticipation of the final electoral roll publication on February 7, 2026, the Uttar Pradesh government issued the directive while a nationwide SIR operation is in progress across 12 states and union territories, including Uttar Pradesh. Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal are among the areas covered by this procedure.
