Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrests Patwari Sarabjit Singh in Tarn Taran after he was caught taking a ₹25,000 bribe in a land mutation corruption case.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) detained Patwari Sarabjit Singh, who was stationed in the district of Tarn Taran circle Golward village Bala Chak, As part of its continuing campaign against corruption. He was caught red-handed taking a second payment of Rs 25,000 in bribes from a complainant who lived in the Amritsar district.

According to a VB spokeswoman, the complainant received a copy of his land’s mutation (fard) in order to sell it. He then discovered that this land is registered in someone else’s name rather than his.

He added that in order to get this mutation fixed, the complainant met with Patwari Sarabjit Singh, who wanted a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh in exchange for fixing his mutation’s record.Negotiations resulted in a settlement of Rs. 30,000. In this regard, the complainant immediately gave accused Patwari a bribe of Rs. 5,000 as the first installment.

In response to the complainant’s information, a VB team set up a trap and apprehended Patwari Sarabjit Singh in the presence of two official witnesses when he accepted a second tranche of Rs. 25,000 as bribe money.

The accused has been the subject of a case filed at the Police Station Vigilance Bureau, Range Amritsar, under the applicable provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Additional investigation is under progress, and the accused will appear in a court of competent jurisdiction tomorrow
