Punjab’s CM Flying Squad monitors ₹4,150 crore rural road upgrades to ensure top quality, transparency, and safety across 19,491 km of link roads.

In a news statement issued by the government, Punjab Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian said the CM Flying Squad is constantly keeping an eye on the state’s ongoing rural link road maintenance and improvement projects.

Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann established the CM Flying Squad, according to the statement, to guarantee the highest caliber of roads being restored and maintained by the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Punjab Mandi Board.

The continuous monitoring is part of a project the Punjab government is working on to improve and repair 19,491 kilometers of link roads, which is estimated to cost Rs 4,150 crore.

According to the press release, Minister S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian offered assurances that the “finest quality” of materials are being used for road construction, improvement, and maintenance. He also warned contractors that they would face severe consequences if they were discovered to be compromising on material quality.

The CM Flying Squad teams are actively operating on the ground and have already visited seven districts, including Faridkot, SBS Nagar, Tarn Taran, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Jalandhar, Patiala, and Gurdaspur, according to a press statement from S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian.

Punjab has 30,237 link roads totaling 64,878 kilometers in length, according to S. Khudian. Of them, 33,492 kilometers are under the jurisdiction of the Punjab Mandi Board, and 31,386 kilometers are under the Public Works Department (PWD). According to him, the Punjab government is currently beginning a project to repair and upgrade 7,373 link roads totaling 19,491.56 kilometers in length, the news statement added.

According to the minister, the project will cost Rs 4,150.42 crore, including five years of maintenance. Of that amount, Rs 3,424.67 crore will go towards repairs and upgrades, and Rs 725.75 crore will be set aside for five-year maintenance.

In the meantime, he said, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) study for these roads saved Rs 383.53 crore.

Particular Attention to Public Safety in Dark or Foggy Conditions:

To enhance public safety in the event of fog or darkness, a specific road safety project worth Rs 91.83 crore is also being executed on the repaired and upgraded link roads.

As part of the project, the link roads will have a three-inch-wide white strip painted on both sides to improve safety in the event of fog or darkness.
